Heavyrain is a Protector Defender whose specialty is providing the camouflage effect to herself and allies in the surrounding tiles. She’s unique in her ability to let allies avoid taking ranged damage as well as ignore certain boss mechanics. She can also function as a regular tank, although generally isn’t preferred for that role.

Due to being a welfare unit, Heavyrain has a slightly longer base redeploy time and higher base DP cost compared to other operators of the same rarity and branch.
Strengths
- Unique ability to provide camouflage to other operators
- The addition of bonus max HP with S2 gives her the ability to tank non-physical attacks that would be much more dangerous against operators who only boost their DEF
Weaknesses
- S1’s reactive camouflage is not very useful and its healing is negligible at best
- Small DEF buff on S2 means she’s a poor choice for physical damage tanking

Heavyrain’s talent is a way to grant more survivability to herself and ranged operators close to her while her skills aren’t active. The talent’s dodge is only really useful during skill downtime, since operators positioned on ranged tiles cannot block, their camouflage cannot be nullified by blocking enemies. It also helps somewhat cover for the low DEF multiplier on Heavyrain’s main skill.

Camouflage: When not blocking, will not be targeted by enemy normal attacks (unable to avoid splash-type attacks)
S1 may find use in some very rare scenarios, but in most cases it’s not worth giving up S2 for. In theory it’s a consistent way of applying camouflage to allies who need it most while keeping their HP above 50%. In practice, however, the camouflage being reactive ends up worse because it applies to allies only after they take damage they should have been protected from. Additionally the healing from this skill will keep operators only slightly above 50% HP, which opens them up to getting easily one-shot by stronger attacks if no other healing is provided.

S1 is not recommended for mastery for the aforementioned reasons. However some players who use Heavyrain extensively may want to consider upgrading it to M1, as it lets her hold an additional charge. Further masteries don’t provide much for their cost outside of the SP cost reduction at M3, but fully mastering a skill that will find little to no use is simply not worth it.

Camouflage: When not blocking, will not be targeted by enemy normal attacks (unable to avoid splash-type attacks)
S2 is Heavyrain’s main skill, as it’s the one that lets her provide camouflage to multiple units at once for a longer period of time. This skill is known for its ability to let you ignore certain ranged attacks and boss mechanics. In usage it’s pretty simple: place your key units in the 4 tiles around Heavyrain and activate the skill before any of them are targeted. S2 can be activated a bit ahead of time for its cycle to line up better with boss abilities, but not doing it is not very punishing, as the duration and cooldown are easy to work with even at SL7
The skill’s biggest drawback is the way the camouflage status works. Camouflage is removed from units blocking an enemy, making it less effective on melee units with short range. Furthermore, camouflage is described in game as being unable to block splash-type attacks, but in practice many splash and AoE attacks can be avoided using it. Which attacks can and cannot be avoided is rather arbitrary, thus using Heavyrain requires either prior knowledge of enemy mechanics or testing done by the player. In addition to camouflage, the bonus DEF and max HP, while not that big, let her tank some high damage enemy attacks in a pinch.

This skill is simply good enough at SL7 for what it’s used for. The skill’s cycle lines up well with a lot of boss phases, against whom it will be mostly used. It has a decent initial cooldown, not enough to make her a helidrop, but just enough that with some preparation most threats can be avoided using her. The most important benefits from masteries are the SP reduction and duration increase, but these are not that important when most timing issues can be fixed by activating the skill a bit ahead of time. The DEF and max HP benefits are lackluster and the skill generally shouldn’t be upgraded for tanking purposes.

The first stage of the module gives Heavyrain one additional block which generally isn’t useful for her, as most players will use her to simply apply camouflage to other operators. The bonus DEF somewhat makes up for her lower trust bonus DEF, and the additional HP gives her more damage soaking power in case she faces a melee enemy. The talent improvements are rather lackluster and don’t rectify its limitations i.e. the fact it only applies to ranged allies and physical enemy attacks.

Heavyrain is almost exclusively used for her ability to grant camouflage to allies, and not for her tanking or dodge talent, making this module not worth getting and upgrading for most players. Even if you insist on using her as a regular Protector, it’s only recommended to get the stage 1 module, as it provides the most benefits at the lowest cost. Further stages are not worth getting, especially when keeping in mind the scarcity of module upgrade materials.
